Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (March 19)

Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to impress as the spring sports finished up over a month of regular season competition.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, March 23, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Aidan Correa, Braddock, baseball: Correa went 3 for 3 with six RBI to lead the Bulldogs to a 16-1 win over Sunset.

George Lombard, Gulliver, baseball: Lombard went 4 for 5 with two home runs and five RBI to lead the Raiders to a 17-6 win over two-time defending state champion North Broward Prep.

Ava Stevens, Somerset Silver Palms, softball: Stevens hit 8 for 12 with six runs scored over three games and pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven in a fourth game as the Stallions swept all four games they played at the Orange Bowl Florida Fastpitch Invitational.

Matthew McKnight, Miami Norland, boys’ track and field: McKnight won the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.17 seconds at the Bob Hayes Invitational in Jacksonville.

Jesus Montes, Mater Lakes, boys’ volleyball: Montes had 49 kills, 14 aces and nine blocks to lead the Bears to five wins and the True North Invitational championship.
