The number of Republicans who support former president Donald Trump more than they support the GOP jumped 7 points from May to August, according to a new NBC News poll.

The August poll found 41 percent of Republicans support Trump more than the party, while 50 percent support the party more than they support the former president. However, 58 percent of Republicans supported the GOP more just three months ago.

The poll was conducted between August 12 and 16, just days after the FBI raided Trump’s personal residence at Mar-a-Lago as part of an investigation into the former president for potential removal or destruction of records, obstruction of an investigation, and a violation of the Espionage Act, according to a search warrant. A list of items removed from the property shows the FBI recovered eleven sets of classified documents during the search, including some top-secret documents that should only have been available in special government facilities.

The unprecedented raid seems to have bolstered support for the former president. A source close to Trump told Axios the raid has had a huge impact on fundraising and has reengaged donors in the biggest way since the end of Trump’s time in office.

While polling in June showed Trump statistically tied with Florida governor Ron DeSantis in a hypothetical 2024 presidential primary matchup, a recent poll by Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire shows Trump leading the governor 50 percent to 29 percent.

Meanwhile, Trump has been an influential factor in a number of primary elections this season. He helped defeat four of the ten House Republicans who voted to impeach him for incitement of an insurrection over the Capitol riot. Four others decided not to run for reelection while the other two survived their primary challenges.

Representative Liz Cheney (R., Wyo.), who has been perhaps the most vocal Trump critic on the Right, lost her primary election to Trump-backed Hariet Hageman by more than 40 points last week after the former president instructed Wyoming voters to “Fire Liz” earlier this year.

Despite Trump’s recent boost among Republicans, 57 percent of Americans say the various investigations into Trump should continue, according to the NBC News poll, including 92 percent of Democrats, 61 percent of independents and 21 percent of Republicans.

Meanwhile after months of hearings from the U.S. House committee investigating January 6, only 50 percent of voters believe Trump is solely or mainly responsible for the Capitol riot, a five point increase from May. Forty-nine percent said Trump is only somewhat responsible or not responsible at all, down 6 points from May.

The poll, which was conducted among 1,000 registered voters, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
