Poll: Will the Jaguars earn their first win on Sunday against Miami?
The Jacksonville Jaguars sit at 0-5 heading into a Week 6 having lost their last 20 contests. The team is currently in the second-worst stretch any club has seen since the NFL-AFL merger, and there isn’t necessarily a sign that the streak is coming to an end any time soon.
However, this week’s game against the Dolphins is as good an opportunity as any to get a tally in the win column. The two teams play on Sunday morning in London, where the Jaguars have found relative success, going 3-4 in their last seven tries across the pond.
This is also a Miami squad that has almost as many questions as the Jags do. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who missed the last three games with broken ribs, has been designated to return from the injured reserve. He will reclaim his starting job from Jacoby Brissett, but he hasn’t done a lot in the brief action he’s seen this year to solidify his spot as the quarterback of the future.
The Dolphins have the No. 31 offense and the No. 30 defense in football. Trevor Lawrence and James Robinson should have a very productive day, and the Jags’ defense, which has been brutalized so far this season, faces a much less challenging test against Miami.
However, that group will be without Myles Jack, who didn’t make the trip to London after suffering a back injury against the Titans last week. Jack is the team’s leading tackler, and his absence will hurt, especially against the run.
Still, this is a good matchup for Jacksonville. While they will be underdogs on Sunday, this game could be one of its best chances to get a win all season. Falling to 0-6 before a murderer’s row of games that begins with a trip to Seattle on Halloween would be a tough pill to swallow for this team.
