Poll: Vote now for the Poughkeepsie Journal Player of the Week (1/10-1/17)

A week jam-packed with games created a platform for several outstanding performances, resulting in a loaded group of nominees. There were career highs, personal bests, program records set and tournaments won among a field of wrestling, swimming, track and field, and basketball standouts.

Last week's Player of the Week winner was Arianna Gonzalez, a John Jay-East Fishkill track and field star. She received 3,153 votes.

Here are this week's nominees:

The freshman won the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.35) and 500 free (5:24.74) and was part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays, leading the Raiders in a 98-64 win over Beacon.

The freshman had 27 points and 10 assists to lead the Bulldogs in a win over Newburgh last Thursday.

The senior took third in the weight throw at the Millrose Games Trials last Wednesday, surpassing his own school record with a distance of 59 feet, 4 ½ feet and qualifying for the Millrose Games on Jan. 29 at The Armory.

Hailey Hrouda, Ketcham track & field

The junior qualified to compete in the weight throw at the Millrose Games thanks to a third-place finish in the tournament trials in which she registered a personal-best 35 feet, 7 ¾ inches. She also won the weight throw (34-11 ½) and took second in the shot put (29-1 ¾) at the Section 1 League 1C championships.

He went 4-0 and won the 189 pound title at the Highland Tournament, pinning Bethpage's Connor Heineman in 3:27 in the final.

The sophomore scored a career-high 34 points and had 10 rebounds in a win over John Jay-East Fishkill last Tuesday. Against Suffern on Saturday, Paino had 15 points and 13 rebounds despite sitting most of the fourth quarter in a blowout win.

The senior went 4-0 and defeated Ketcham's Noel Martinez in the final to win the 126-pound title at the Highland Tournament.

The junior scored a career-high 33 points with 17 rebounds, four blocks and four steals in a 61-50 win over Mamaroneck on Saturday. She also had 12 rebounds and scored all 11 of her points in the second half to lead the Patriots in a comeback win over rival Ketcham last Tuesday.

Collin Casey, Marlboro basketball

The guard had 26 points and seven rebounds to lead the Iron Dukes in a 63-49 win over Franklin D. Roosevelt last Tuesday.

He won the 1,600 meters in 4:47.87 and the 3,200 (9:58.83), and was part of the part of the winning 3,200-meter relay team (9:07.31), leading the Admirals to the Section 1 League 1C boys track and field title.

She won the 1,500 meters in 4:59.39 and the 3,000 in 10:30.05, helping the Patriots take second place overall in the Section 1 League 1C championships last Thursday. The Stony Brook University commit also was part of the winning 3,200-meter relay (10:33.04).

The senior defeated Leo Venables, lohud's No. 1-ranked wrestler at 172 pounds in Section 1, to lead Ketcham in a 45-28 win over Carmel last Wednesday. McLaughlin also finished second in his weight class at the Highland Tournament.

Maia Perillo, John Jay track & field

The sophomore placed first in the pole vault with a program-record height of 10 feet, 1 inch — more than three feet ahead of second place at the Section 1 League 1C tournament. Perillo was also part of the quartet that won the 800-meter relay in 1:52.17.
