A company that can be seen as an "unsung hero" for helping to keep area store shelves stocked has broken ground at Lisbon's new business park.

Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics is building a 9,975-square feet facility at W223 N6219 Richard Road.

Lisbon Business Park East was formed in 2020 and is a part of the town's first TIF district, approved by town officials in 2018. It is at Townline Road and Main Street (Highway 74) at the former site of Lied's Nursery. Lied's closed about 12 years ago.

Other businesses have expressed interest in some of the available lots at the 72-acre business park, said Town Administrator Kathy Nickolaus, who added that the specific businesses are not being disclosed yet.

She did say there will be a dance studio, a restaurant, a manufacturing and a distribution company.

The TIF district was formed to finance $4.2 million in public improvements to encourage the development of the property, according to town documents.

Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics will join Wikoff Color Corp., an ink and print company that is constructing a new 40,000-square-foot plant in the business park.

Wikoff Color Corp.

Wikoff Color Corp. plans to create 25 jobs and make a $5.4 million investment in the facility. .

According to a news release from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp., WEDC is supporting the project by authorizing up to $200,000 in state income tax credits over the next three years. The credits the company will receive depend on the number of jobs created and the amount of capital investment during that period.

The company plans to make the $5.4 million investment in the facility and spend an additional $2 million before seeking WEDC assistance, according to the news release.

Wikoff Color Corp. has three other locations: in Wauwatosa, Green Bay and Canada. According to the press release, the company will consolidate all locations in Lisbon. The company, in this location, will specialize in flexible packaging, such as pouches.

“The investment by Wikoff Color solidifies the company’s continued commitment to Wisconsin and is a testament to the strength of our manufacturing industry,” said Missy Hughes, secretary and CEO of WEDC in a released statement. “This investment is the latest example of the many forward-looking companies choosing to expand operations in Wisconsin because of our state’s lead in flexible packaging and our strength in the food-and-beverage sector.”

Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics

Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics, whose services expanded during the pandemic, now has the facility and the space to handle its increase in services and can continue to expand.

Before the pandemic, Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics, had dozens of trucks take out up to 75 loads a day during the pandemic.

"It skyrocketed, and I was not able to see my family in a week," said owner Pamela Polyak. The workload has slowed somewhat, and she said her family business now coordinates 40 loads a day.

"Without us, our shelves would be empty," she said. "If we are not doing our job as truckers, then there are empty shelves and increased pricing. If we don't pick up a load, then it is sitting in a warehouse."

Pamela Polyak, owner of Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics, and Mike Moore, owner of Moore Construction Services, break ground for the new Polyak Trucking & Polyak Logistics building in the town of Lisbon.

Currently, the company leases space at 5444 N. 124th St., Butler, which is about a third the size of its new building, said Polyak. She said she currently has only an acre of lot space for her trucks.

With the new building, she said, she will have 4 acres for her trucks and 50 pieces of equipment and is primed to expand.

She said it took about a year to find a place for the company's new building, as many neighboring municipalities turned down their relocation.

"No one wants to look at trucks, and it was hard to find a place," she said. "Most people see us taking half of the road instead of saying that they need us.

"This affords us the opportunity to expand," she said. "We keep the wheels of America going. I am excited (Lisbon) is a growing town."

Polyak said she is hopeful the company will be operational in its new building by the end of 2022.
