Pompano Beach warehouse goes up in flames

Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the roof of a warehouse in Pompano Beach and firefighters had a tough time extinguishing it.

The fire erupted about 11 a.m. Thursday at 941 S.W. Eighth St. in the warehouse owned by AMS Roofing and Exterior Home Remodeling Company, fire rescue spokeswoman Sandra King.

“The warehouse and surrounding buildings were evacuated,” she said. “It was quickly under control, however the fire continued to grow inside.”

Styrofoam insulation materials caused the fire to continue to burn inside the warehouse, she added.

Several fire engines and ladder trucks from Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue combined firefighting efforts in the commercial district southwest of Interstate 95 and W. Atlantic Boulevard.

The persistent flames were eventually extinguished and there were no injuries reported.

The preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have been caused by someone soldering inside the warehouse, but the definitive cause of the fire is still under investigation.
