Pontiac, Dwight, EPG come up short on baseball diamond

EUREKA — Pontiac was held in check by Eureka pitching as the host Hornets stung the Indians 11-1 in a nonconference baseball contest Wednesday.

Pontiac threatened to score in the top of the third inning when Michael Kuska tripled with two outs but he was left stranded. PTHS broke through for its only run in the fourth inning.

Logan Barnett was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame but was thrown out on Johnny Lenox fielder's choice. Henry Brummel delivered a two-base hit that drove in Lenox. A fly out and a punch out ended the inning with Brummel still on second base.

The run made it 8-1 and Eureka added three runs in the fifth to end the game.

Kuska had a triple, Brummel doubled and Lenox singled to account for the Pontiac (10-12) base hits.

Parker Francis took the loss after giving up eight runs, 10 hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out two. Drew Wayman finished up, allowing three runs, four hits and a walk to go with two punchouts.

Dwight-Henry-Senachwine

DWIGHT — Dwight dropped both ends of a doubleheader with Henry-Senachwine in Tri-County Conference baseball Wednesday.

The Trojans lost the opener 11-5 after the Mallards scored eight runs in the sixth inning. DTHS led 4-3 going into the frame and had led 4-0 after three innings.

Jack Duffy had three hits, including a double, and scored three times for the Trojans. Ryan Turner had two hits and drove in a run while Will Trainor also had two hits. Luke Gallet had a double and RBI and Terry Wilkey and Tyler Frauli each had a hit and RBI. Jeremy Kapper singled.

Tyler Cox took the loss. He gave up six runs, five hits, two walks and fanned on in 5 1/3 innings. Dillon Sarff finished up, allowing five runs, seven hits and three walks.

Henry-Senachwine had a huge second inning the late game, scoring nine runs in the second to overcome a four-run deficit and cruise to an 18-8 win.

Kapper had two hits and drove in a run for Dwight (2-18). Dawson Carr had a double and two RBIs while Wyatt Stalter and Sarff each had a hit and run batted in. Jack Denker drove in two runs.

Stalter took the loss as the Trojans used five pitchers.

Dee-Mack 13, EPG 6

EL PASO — Dee-Mack scored five runs in the first inning and didn't allow El Paso-Gridley to get any closer than three the rest of the way as the Chiefs topped the host Titans 13-6 in a Heart of Illinois Conference baseball contest at South Pointe Park Wednesday.

The five runs for Dee-Mack put EPG in a hole early. The margin was 6-0 before the Titans got on the board in the fourth inning.

Mac Raymer led off the EPG fourth with a base hit. Landon Foster singled one out later to put runners on the corners. Jacob Castleman delivered a run-scoring single as Raymer raced home.

The Chiefs scored two runs in the top of the fifth to go up 8-1, but the Titans responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Caden Deckard led off with a base hit and he scored one out later when Mitchell Wilson doubled. Brady Veselack and Raymer followed with singles, which allowed Wilson to score. A two-out, bases-loaded walk to Castleman forced in Veselack for EPG and Will McNamara was plunked to drive in Raymer that made it an 8-5 game.

Dee-Mack shut the door on EPG with five runs in the sixth inning.

The Titans got their final run in the sixth. Aiden Jeffreys doubled with two outs to drive in Wilson, who had singled.

Wilson had a double, two singles and drove in a run to pace the El Paso-Gridley (12-8) offense. Castleman had two hits and two runs batted in and Raymer had two hits and a run batted in. Jeffreys had a double and RBI while Foster, Deckard and Veselack each singled. McNamara drove in a run.

Raymer took the loss as the starter. He allowed five runs, six hits and two walks to go with two strikeouts in one inning. Castleman fanned seven, walked four and gave up a hit and unearned run in three innings. Veselack allowed seven runs (one earned), three hits and five walks while striking out one.
