Pontiac harriers take invitational

HERSCHER —Pontiac came home a champion over the weekend as the cross country team claimed the title at the Herscher Invitational.

Between the frosh-sophs, girls and boys' varsity teams, the Indians had 17 personal-best efforts recorded on the day.

It was not a PR but it was a season-best run for Aidan Lee as he paced the Tribe to first in the boys' varsity meet. Lee finished second overall with a time of 16 minutes, 12 seconds. The next three Indians to run through the chute did have PRs as the team chalked up 36 points, easily outrunning runnerup Herscher (61). There were 11 teams competing.

Cam Fenton was second for the Tribe and fifth overall with a time of 16:48 while Fernando Dailey was seventh overall at 16:56 and Jaxen Paine was eighth at 17:12. Tyler Hanson completed the team scoring with a time of 18:22 for 22nd overall.

Also competing were Aiden Christenson (PR 18:41) and Jake DeWald (18:58).

Jaden Lucas was fourth overall in the girls' varsity run as she helped Pontiac place sixth overall. Lucas finished in 20:05.

The Indians finished with 143 points and had four personal-best efforts and one season's-best. The season's-best was Brianna Hilleary, who was second for the Tribe and 31st overall at 22:58. Aliyah Dailey was 42nd overall with a PR 25:12. Madison Franklin (46th place, 25:49) and Lily White (49th, 26:04) completed the scoring. Kailyn Tooley (26:27) and Julie Godert (26:46) had personal-best runs.

All 10 runners in the frosh-soph run established personal-best marks.

Flanagan-Cornell-Tri-Valley

FLANAGAN — Grace Zimmerman returned to the stat leaderboard in helping lead Flanagan-Cornell to a two-set win over Dee-Mack Monday. Zimmerman was the attack leader as the Falcons edged the Chiefs 25-23, 25-22.

Zimmerman was the leader in kills with 6 and tied for the team lead in defensive digs with 7 as Flanagan-Cornell improved to 3-4 in Heart of Illinois Conference play and 12-13 overall. Zimmerman also had 3 ace serves.

Kortney Harms had 4 kills and 6 assists for the Falcons and Raegan Montello had 8 assists. On defense, Kalynne Kindermann tied Zimmerman with 7 digs and Harms dug up 4 Dee-Mack attacks.

Addi Swadinsky had 6 kills for the Chiefs, who dropped to 4-3 in league play.

Dee-Mack claimed both preliminary matches, taking the sophomore tilt 25-10, 25-17 and the freshman match 25-16, 25-10.

Lexington-Tri-Valley

DOWNS — Lexington had a rough time at Tri-Valley as the host Vikings took care of business in two sets in their Heart of Illinois Conference match.

Tri-Valley posted a 25-21, 25-13 win over the Minutemen to take the evening's series. The Vikings won the freshman match 25-22, 25-19 but Lexington captured the sophomore tilt 25-19, 25-23.

Makayla Ziegler led the Minutemen in the varsity match with 6 kills. Emma Bennett had 5 assists and Mary Doll chalked up 4 assists.

On defense, Avery Poppe and Bennett each had 6 digs and Vivian Wright came up with 5 digs. Poppe registered 1½ blocks at the net.
