Pontiac, Prairie Central drop IPC matches

Chillicothe (IVC) left Pontiac with a two-set victory over the host Indians in an Illini Prairie Conference volleyball match Thursday.

The loss drops the Tribe to 4-11 on the season.

Pontiac had trouble making successful attacks as it managed 11 kills for the two games. Bailey Masching was the leader with 6 kills while Alix Robinson drove home 3 kills and Adriann Sutton had 2 kills. Keara Smith had 10 assists.

The defense managed just 13 digs on the night as Smith led eight Indians with 3. Cadence Helms had 2 blocks and Robinson made 1 block.

It was a tough night for the PTHS program all around as the sophomores lost 25-17, 25-23 and the freshmen fell 26-24, 25-21.

Prairie Central-PBL

FAIRBURY — Prairie Central was able to rally to force a third set but the Hawks were unable to maintain the momentum as Paxton-Buckley-Loda left town with a 25-20, 19-25, 25-19 Illini Prairie Conference victory Thursday.

“Our varsity team had a lot of good things happening but just could not catch the win,” PC head coach Kirsten Smith said. “However, we made an amazing comeback in the third set.”

Kerigan Fehr led the Hawks' offense with 7 kills. Gracie Edelman had 13 assists and Gyllian Davies served up 7 points, including a pair of aces.

Carley Chambers came up with 12 digs on defense. Davies, Adeline Kilgus and Sawyer Ashman each made 1 block.

The Hawks were able to notch wins in the preliminaries as the sophomore triumphed 26-24, 22-25, 25-18 and the freshmen triumphed 25-14, 25-12.

“Our freshmen and JV got the win tonight playing really well,” Smith said. “They talked and moved to the ball and are really getting in a little groove on the court.”

Flanagan-Cornell-Fieldcrest

FLANAGAN — Flanagan-Cornell found its fourth match in as many days to be tiring as the Falcons lost a two-set Heart of Illinois Conference match to visiting Fieldcrest Thursday.

The Knights prevailed 25-14, 25-21.

Flanagan-Cornell had defeated Pontiac, Fisher and Dwight earlier in the week, but had trouble with Fieldcrest. Kortney Harms and Grace Zimmerman each had 5 kills for the Falcons (11-10, 2-2). Harms and Raegan Montello each had 5 assists while Kalynne Kindermann made 2 digs on defense.

Allie Wiesenhofer paced unbeaten Fieldcrest (11-0, 5-0) with 9 kills. Kate White had 13 assists.

The Falcons took the sophomore match 25-17, 23-25, 15-12. The freshmen won 25-17, 25-13.
