Pony Powersports Mansfield opening new "superstore" at 1229 Ashland Road

Pony Powersports Group acquired a new superstore-sized location at 1229 Ashland Road, Mansfield, and will be up and operating in the new facility in about a year, said Sean Reifenberg, director of marketing and creative at the company.

The new facility, called Pony Powersports Mansfield, is to be located at the former Save-A-Lot, is almost three times the size of the company's current location at 327 Ashland Road, providing more space for a larger inventory of motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, and more, Reifenberg said.

A considerable number of jobs will be created at the new store, Reifenberg said.

Pony Powersports Group plans to open a new facility at 1229 Ashland Road in the next year. The site was formerly home to Save-A-Lot and at one point, Hawkin's Market. The store will be almost three times the size of the current location at 327 Ashland Road.

The new location will feature state-of-the-art service facilities and a more spacious showroom, allowing customers to see and experience a wider variety of powersports options.

"Pony Powersports has been actively looking to increase our presence in the community since 2016 and it is with great pride that we landed in this location with such rich history as a former Hawkins Market," Reifenberg said.

Chris Jones, CEO and President of Iron Pony Motorsports Group, said, “We have found our new home for our Mansfield dealership and we are excited for Mansfield, and our Mansfield team members."

The new facility also features ample parking, making it easier for customers to park and access the dealership. With a larger, more modern facility, Pony Powersports Mansfield is poised to continue growing and providing exceptional service to power sports enthusiasts throughout Ohio.

Iron Pony Motorsports had expressed interest last year in opening a store in the old Kingsgate Cinema and former JCPenney building on Park Avenue West, according to former strip mall's owner. The plan was to spend $2 million to rehab the former cinema and department store at 1290 and 1300 Park Avenue West, Eric Elizondo, senior vice president of operations for Skilken Gold Real Estate, told the Mansfield Planning Commission last October.

But that plan fell through and the city has ordered demolition of the former cinema and retail store.

Iron Pony Motorsports said on Tuesday that Mansfield residents should be on the lookout for future building and site improvements and a move date for the dealership to be announced soon after some upgrades to the Ashland Road building are completed.

"We're thrilled to be moving into this new, larger location," said Johnie Teders, general manager of Pony Powersports Mansfield. "This move is an incredible step for our dealership, and we believe it will allow us to better serve the needs of our customers."
