Get your pooch out and about to have some fun off leash at these popular CT dog parks

All over Connecticut, thousands of dog owners look for somewhere dog friendly to let their pooch run wild.

In towns across the state, dog parks have begun popping up. Sometimes they are simple with two sides – one for big dogs and one for small dogs – while others have far reaching trails you can hike with your best friend. There’s water stations, play areas and more. There is even an indoor dog park located in West Hartford where you won’t be toweling mud off paws after visiting during a rainy day.

Here is a list of some of our favorite dog parks in Connecticut.

Wagging Tails Indoor Dog Park

635 New Park Ave., West Hartford

This year-round, indoor dog park may require a membership, but it’s worth it! The Wagging Tails Indoor Dog Park is adjacent to an outdoor play yard. In the warmer months, there are pools, water play features, shade and tons of seating for pet parents. Get your pooch out in the winter and other inclement weather without the mud and mess.

Southbury Dog Park

236 Roxbury Road, Rt. 67, Southbury

It may be a bit of a drive from Hartford, but the Southbury Dog Park has something quite unique – 14 acres of open trails you can wander with your dog off leash. The park includes an open field, a fenced-in small dog area and access to a river, two wooded trails and tables and benches.

South Windsor Dog Park

150 Nevers Road, South Windsor

The South Windsor Dog Park has a little bit for every pooch. Along with separate areas for big and small dogs, there are water and cleanup stations and agility equipment. Help your dog jump over jumps or climb over an A frame. The park is also located next to Nevers Road Park.

East Windsor Dog Park

24 Reservoir Ave., Broad Brook

The East Windsor Dog Park is a one-acre grass park with separate areas for small and large dogs. Just a heads up though, the park does not provide any water stations so make sure to bring it with you. It closes mid-winter and reopens every spring.

Paw Meadow Dog Park

22 Iron Horse Blvd., Simsbury

Paw Meadow features a double-gate park located within the heart of downtown Simsbury. There is tons of free parking and water is available in season along with waste stations, benches and lights.

Enfield Dog Park

Ecology Drive, Enfield

The Enfield Dog Park is fully fenced with separate areas for small and large dogs. It even has agility items set up in the park. It has benches for the humans and water is available.

Newington Dog Park

John Stewart Drive, Newington

This newly opened park is located in the center of Newington. It has two spaces for large and small dogs along with benches for humans.

Wethersfield Dog Park

154 Prospect St., Wethersfield

The Wethersfield Dog Park is part of Mill Woods Park. It is open every day from sunrise to sunset. It has a separate area for small or timid dogs.
