These pools across metro Atlanta offer free and cheap ways to cool off this summer

While May has seen some cooler than average temperatures this month, the Georgia summer heat is just around the corner.

What better way to cool off than checking out the local pools in your neighborhood? Several cities and counties offer free admission to their swimming facilities while others charge only a couple of bucks.

Here’s a city-by-city and county-by-county roundup. This list will be updated throughout the summer.

ATLANTA

The City of Atlanta operates a mix of indoor and outdoor pools that are free to the public. The indoor pools are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The outdoor pools are open from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Outdoor pools opening May 27

  • Anderson Park, 100 Anderson Ave. NW, Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

  • Grant Park, 625 Park Ave. SE, closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

CHEROKEE COUNTY

The Oasis at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center opens for the summer season from May 27 to July 30. When the school year starts back up, it will be open on weekends only from Aug. 1 to Sept. 4.

The Oasis will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. It costs $6-9 for Cherokee County for daily admission. Those who live in the county can purchase a season pass for $58-87 while non-residents can purchase one for $73-109.

COBB COUNTY

There are four indoor aquatic centers that are open-year round and two outdoor pools for the summer months in Cobb County. Daily admission fees range from $3 to $4.50. They also offer a 10-visit pass, monthly pass, quarterly pass and annual pass that families can use throughout the year.

DEKALB COUNTY

DeKalb County pools will be open from May 27 to August 6 this summer. A few pools will stay open through Labor Day. Residents who live in DeKalb County get free admission.

  • Exchange Splash Pad, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur; hours: Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday and Tuesday, noon to 7 p.m.

  • Gresham Park, 3113 Gresham Road, Atlanta; hours: Sunday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday closed; Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

  • Lithonia Park, 2501 Park Drive, Lithonia hours: Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday closed; Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. (will open Saturday, June 3)

  • Tobie Grant Park, 593 Parkdale Road, Scottsdale; hours: Sunday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Monday closed; Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

  • Midway Park, 3181 Midway Road, Decatur; hours: Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday closed; Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m.

  • Medlock Park, 874 Gay Lemont Circle, Decatur; hours: Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m.; Tuesday closed; Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, Noon to 6 p.m.

  • Kittredge Park, 2535 N. Druid Hills Road, Atlanta; hours: Sunday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday closed; Monday, Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. (opens June 3)

FULTON COUNTY

  • Alpharetta: Wills Park Pool, 1815 Old Milton Pkwy; admission fees are $5 for residents and $8 for non-residents with discounts for seniors; open daily from May 27 to Aug. 6 and weekends only on Saturday and Sunday; hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday-Friday

  • Forest Park: Starr Park Pool, 5031 Park Ave, Forest Park; open swim 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

  • Roswell Area Park Pool, 10495 Woodstock Road, Roswell; admission is $3 for residents and $5 non-residents with season passes available for $28 and $42.

GWINNETT COUNTY

Gwinnett County has a mix of seasonal and year-round aquatic centers that are open to the public. The admission fees ranges from $3.725 to $5.50 for Gwinnett County residents and $6.25 to $10.50 for non-Gwinnett residents. The county also offers a season FUNCARD pass for families of two to six people.

  • Best Friend Park Pool, 6224 Jimmy Carter Boulevard, Norcross; hours: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday; Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Dacula Park Pool, 205 Dacula Road, Dacula; hours: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Lenora Park Pool, 4315 Lenora Church Road, Snellville; hours: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Rhodes Jordan Park Pool, 100 East Crogan Street, Lawrenceville; hours: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday; Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
