Two local business owners celebrated Small Business Saturday by doing something special for women business owners in Cleveland County.

Madison Brooks, owner of Blackheart Skin Co., and Taylor Harbinson, owner of Luex 17 Boutique, hosted a pop-up shop for women-owned businesses at Uptown Indigo.

The pop-up shop was inspired after Brooks and Harbinson attended an event for local business owners. During that gathering, Brooks said she and Harbinson were the only female entrepreneurs to attend, and they decided to bring a similar event more tailored to women business owners.

"We decided to dedicate it specifically towards women because there are a lot of really great businesses here in Cleveland County that are women-owned that people don't know about," said Brooks.

The event saw 18 vendors, including beauty and skin care, a medicinal spa, handmade jewelry and candle makers and decorators.

"I was very pleased, especially for this to be the first event. I think we had a great turnout, and all of our vendors were very responsive," Brooks said.

With the inaugural event now behind them, Brooks said she is already planning a 2022 shop.

"Obviously we want to have more. The more we can bring in the better," she said.
