Nearly three years after his death, a new track by pop icon George Michael has been released.

"This Is How (We Want You To Get High)" will play at the end of upcoming festive film "Last Christmas", starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding.

The film itself is inspired by Michael's solo tunes and hits from his Wham! days.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRODUCER, DAVID LIVINGSTONE, ON HIM AND THOMPSON BEING TOLD THERE WAS A NEW GEORGE MICHAEL SONG THAT HAD NEVER BEEN HEARD BEFORE AND THEY COULD USE IN THE FILM, SAYING:

"We had no idea that it existed. I mean, I had no idea at all that there was another George Michael song And but to be clear, it's not like a song that's been dug out of the vaults, that's been sitting there unused because it wasn't good enough. It was a song that he intended to do something with. And this is its new home, you know, and we're really happy to have it... it's a fantastic song. I mean, everybody will have a chance to hear it, but it's a great song and it's a perfect ending to our movie and does feel like it's tailor-made. It really does feel like this song must have been written for this moment in the film."

The track was recorded during Michael's final studio sessions and see the star addressing society's ills against a catchy melody.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRODUCER, DAVID LIVINGSTONE, ON WHAT THE NEW GEORGE MICHAEL TRACK IS LIKE, SAYING:

"It's like 'Freedom 90'. It's that kind of dancing around the room, upbeat, just dance-floor filler. When I say filler, filling up a dance-floor. Yeah, it's, that's what it is.

The soundtrack for the romantic comedy-- which is co-written by Oscar winner Emma Thompson, features 12 Michael solo songs and three Wham! tunes.

Michael died on Christmas Day, 2016.
