Pope Francis in hospital: What is happening?

Pope Francis is staying in hospital for a “few days” to recover from a respiratory infection, the Vatican confirmed on Wednesday, 29 March.
The pontiff was due to visit the Gemelli hospital in Rome for previously scheduled checks, spokesperson Matteo Bruni preivously said.
The Pope required “a few days of appropriate hospital medical therapy” for the infection, according to an updated statement.
“Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,” the Vatican added.
