Popeyes serving up ugly Christmas chicken sandwich sweater. How fast will it sell out?

Popeyes is turning the Chicken Sandwich War into a festive fashion statement.

The fast-food chain is serving up a limited ugly Christmas sweater, which is expected to sell out faster than its viral chicken sandwich.

The unisex sweaters featuring snowflakes, Christmas trees and sandwiches go on sale Wednesday at www.uglychristmassweater.com/popeyes for $44.95, while supplies last. Popeyes is calling it the "ultimate ice breaker" for holiday parties.

"With the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich becoming a household favorite and pop culture phenomenon this year, the team at UglyChristmasSweater.com partnered with the beloved Cajun brand to create a holiday festive look sure to make mouths water," the sweater's product description says.

The Chicken Sandwich War began Aug. 19, a week after Popeyes' debut of its New Orleans-style fried chicken on a bun when the chain started a viral Twitter feud with Chick-fil-A and other restaurants.

Then, on Aug. 27, Popeyes announced the sandwiches were sold out and the company was working with suppliers to bring it back as soon as possible.

"We sold through our inventory due to unprecedented demand, so the product was temporarily unavailable, but now we’re excited to say it’s back for good," Felipe Athayde, president of Popeyes for the Americas, said in a statement to USA TODAY before the sandwich's Nov. 3 return.

Popeyes isn't the only restaurant selling holiday gifts.

Last week, Kentucky Fried Chicken brought back a popular holiday item that can make a house smell like fried chicken – the limited-edition 11 Herbs & Spices Firelog. It sold out in about a day.

McDonald’s, which recently started testing two crispy chicken sandwiches in Houston and Knoxville, launched an online shop called Golden Arches Unlimited Wednesday at www.goldenarchesunlimited.com. The store sells clothes, accessories and more.
