Popeyes introduces 82-inch box of chicken in honor of Zion Williamson

Zion Williamson hasn’t even played a game for the New Orleans Pelicans yet, but he’s already winning fans over. To celebrate Williamson joining the team Thursday, one Popeyes in New Orleans will offer an 82-inch box of food to its customers.

Why 82 inches? Because that’s Williamson’s wingspan. Popeyes is calling it the “Wingspan Box.”

What does 82 inches of food get you? We’re glad you asked. The box will contain 77 boneless wings, 11 biscuits and 11 servings of fries, according to Business Insider. The Williamson-inspired box of Popeyes will cost just under $75.

The product unfortunately won’t be available for every NBA fan. The “Wingspan Box” is only being sold at the Popeyes on Canal Street in New Orleans. That location is only selling the 82-inch box of food Thursday, the day of the 2019 NBA draft.

All of this is being done in celebration of Williamson being drafted by the Pelicans. That hasn’t happened yet, though it’s considered a certainty. The 18-year-old Williamson became the third freshman to win the Wooden Award, which is given out to the best player in college basketball. He’s been considered the No. 1 overall pick the instance he first stepped on the court at Duke.

What comes next is anyone’s guess. For Williamson, he’ll work on living up to the lofty standards that come with being selected No. 1 overall. For other fast food restaurants, they’ll have to come up with ways to top this Popeyes’ promotion.

The ball — or the bucket, in this case — is in KFC’s court now.
