Skipper's Landing on eastern shore of Sodus Bay in Wayne County is back in business.

The popular bayside restaurant in Wolcott was owned and operated by Rusty and Lisa Dean for nearly 40 years, when the pair paused operations in January, saying that they needed some much-needed time off. The pair did not reopen and announced their retirement in July.

Last week, Abby and Josh Hogan reopened the business. The couple, who previously owned and operated Hogan's Eatery in Sodus and more recently operated a food trailer and catering business. Their previous eatery closed for good this spring after more than four years in business, though the pair has worked in the restaurant industry for years, they said.

Skipper's Landing Restaurant & Marina, at 7061 Lake Bluff Road in Wolcott, is known for its stellar view and seafood. There's a outdoor deck, available for dining, with a tiki bar and a fire pit area.

Abby Hogan on Wednesday said the first week went well and that many patrons visited the eatery, which can be accessed by boat or by car. But she noted, "we're still finding our groove so please be patient."

The Hogans said they are overwhelmed with the support and positivity during opening week, even as patrons waited their turn to try out the revamped hot spot.

Skipper's will be open for dinner, Wednesdays through Sundays, but permanent hours have not been set. The Hogans said they plan to start offering lunch service over Labor Day weekend.

Until then, the restaurant is open from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 2 to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sunday. Tiki bar operation is weather permitting. The restaurant will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Entrees include a variety of seafood dishes (scallops, haddock, shrimp, perch and salmon), a variety of pasta dishes, steak and prime rib. Burgers, chicken sandwiches and salads are also available.
