Popular Delano store now has a second site, and it’s not too far from the first

Wichita’s second All Things Barbecue is in its final week of a soft opening in the former Cherry Orchard Furniture space on the west side before starting a normal schedule next week.

“It’s still very much a work in progress, but you will not be disappointed,” said owner Don Cary.

Previously, Cary called the move to 5215 W. Central, just east of I-235, “our maiden voyage outside of the . . . flagship.”

The store has had a presence in Delano for 14 years. In 2020, Cary purchased the former Cherry Orchard space as a warehouse and planned to have occasional sales for items such as for scratched and dented furniture. Then, he decided he could put the 32,000-square-foot space to better use as another store.

The new store will carry a deeper line of smokers and grills while the Delano store will have more of a focus on outdoor kitchens and patio furniture, though some of that will be on display at the West Central store as well.

“And those are all areas that will continue to grow,” Cary said.

Usually when Wichita businesses open two stores in the city, one is on the east side and one is west. Cary acknowledged that his two stores are “super close.” By his estimation, they’re about eight minutes away, or maybe double that during morning and evening commutes.

Cary said the new store has a lot of parking and easy access in and out. The building also has space for outbound shipping and deliveries.

The new store also has a demonstration kitchen along with refrigeration and freezers for items such as specialty meats, which will be coming soon.

A new pantry is a particular focal point. The store sells its traditional sauces and rubs, but there are other items as well, such as all the ingredients to make what Cary called a “true Neapolitan-style pizza.” He said he’s expanding into flours, grains, rice and gourmet beans, too.

He said the goal is to have a curated selection for shoppers to create a complete meal.

This week, the store will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Starting next week, regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The Delano store at 818 W. Douglas is open the same hours with the addition of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday as well.

Cary said he’s been surprised that a lot of customers already have stopped by the new store who have never been in the Delano store. He’d said the soft opening has been a positive one.

“It has picked up each week.”
