This popular ice cream shop closed in Medway two years ago. Now it has a new home

HOLLISTON — After two years on the road, she's back.

As promised.

Tina Chemini, who cited an inability to come to terms on a new lease for her popular Medway ice cream shop, T.C. Scoops, before closing it in the summer of 2021, has reopened in her hometown.

The new T.C. Scoops is at 100 Central St. in Holliston, right beside Table Top Pizza. Chemini calls it "a dream come true."

"Being part of the community was really the focus and what I wanted to achieve in opening a business," she said.

T.C. Scoops features 60 flavors of locally-made Hershey ice cream, sorbet and frozen yogurt, along with FoMu non-dairy/vegan desserts, all available in cups, cones or beverage form, accoding to a release describing the reopened shop. Flavors include Moose Tracks, Cookies & Cream, Cookie Dough and various fruity flavors like lemon and peach ice cream.

After her Medway shop closed, Chemini operated an ice cream truck — even as she promised she would reopen a store someday.

"I decided to buy an old handicap transport bus during COVID, and I transformed that into an ice cream bus," she said. "So I did that from when the store shut down. I personally will be doing the bus in the summer."

T.C. Scoops reopened in Holliston on April 8. Since then, the business has already been "crazy in a good way," Chemini said. She said students come in after school and people are stopping by after using the nearby Upper Charles Rail Trail.

Being back in a store feels right, according to Chemini, as her goal is to create a place of community.

"I love meeting new people," she said. "I find people fascinating. If you can take a few minutes to talk to people. They have the most amazing stories, they do amazing things they know amazing things."

Chemini said she likes being there for "life moments," including watching children grow up and solving problems.

"If someone doesn't feel good, or if they had a bad day, ice cream seems to solve a lot of problems or make it seem a little bit more bearable," she said. "I'm so excited to be part of that."

Before Chemini opened T.C. Scoops, she worked in corporate human resources. But, “I had always dreamed of opening an ice cream parlor," she told the Daily News at the time she closed her Medway store.

T.C. Scoops is currently open from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday; it's closed on Monday. On Memorial Day, the store will shift to its summer hours of noon to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
