Chris and Sarah Gosselin are fans of indoor cycling and have noticed that cycling is popular in Tallahassee area.

After learning about the fitness brand CycleBar, the couple thought it would be a great addition to Tallahassee’s health and fitness scene.

“I’m a big advocate for indoor cycling,” Sarah said. “After COVID, we were looking for places to do indoor cycling.”

This appeal led to them researching the possibilities for Tallahassee, and deciding to purchase a CycleBar franchise in March 2022.

Since then, it’s been a quick cycle of marketing the venture, connecting with local wellness businesses and most recently, overseeing the construction of the studio in northeast Tallahassee.

The high-energy indoor cycling gym is projected to open in early May in Tallahassee’s Market District, 1413 Market St. The cycling studio will be in a second-floor location directly above Hopkins Eatery.

“I think what really makes us unique is that we want everyone to have a good time,” said Brooke Robinson, general manager of the Tallahassee CycleBar.

The workout “ride” consists of intense cardio directed by energetic instructors in a fun, hyper environment featuring fast-paced music. After each session, riders are emailed CycleStats, a measurement of their performance to track progression.

The cycling studio is equipped with 45 bikes and 10-15 instructors. Riders can purchase a membership plan or pay for individual classes as they please.

Co-owner Chris Gosselin says they are still hiring front of house staff to greet riders as they enter and help prepare them for classes.

What separates CycleBar from other exercise studios that incorporate cycling is CycleBar specializes in cycling as a full body workout, without other exercise options.

The Gosselins both attended Florida State University and remained in Tallahassee after graduating to work as consultants for state agencies.

The couple is excited about their new business endeavor and how they hope it will fare in the Tallahassee community.

“One of the things that drew us to CycleBar is the wide demographics,” Sarah Gosselin said.

She said their pre-membership has been growing and spans a wide spectrum of demographics by age, race, and identity.

“We’re really about trying to create that sense of community inside and out of the studio,” Sarah said.

While the studio is still under construction, the team sets up promotional tables at events around town. They have also partnered with other local businesses like supplement shop, 5 Star Nutrition, and The Good Berry Acai Bowls. These partnerships offer discounts to CycleBar members and help unite the local fitness community.

“Our membership is growing,” Sarah said, “People are really excited about what we are bringing.”

How to prepare for a CycleBar class

Robinson says it’s best for first-time riders to arrive 10 minutes early for their class to tour the studio, fit their cycling shoes and get set up.

Riders don’t have to bring much with them to class other than socks. Water, cycling shoes and towels are complimentary with each ride.

“Be open and be ready,” Robinson advises. You’re in complete control so you don’t have to overdo it.”

How much is a CycleBar membership?

Since the studio is not yet operating, only memberships are available now to sign up. Once it opens, riders will be able to sign up for individual classes.

  • The Unlimited membership is $169 a month.

  • The eight rides membership plan is $129 a month.

  • The four rides membership plan is $79 a month.

There are discounts and promotions for pre-memberships available on the CycleBar Tallahassee website, www.cyclebar.com/location/Tallahassee.
