Popular Lake Norman restaurateurs open first Charlotte eatery

The husband-and-wife duo behind Lake Norman hot spots Kindred, Hello, Sailor and milkbread have opened their first venture within Charlotte city limits.

Joe and Katy Kindred have opened the second milkbread cafe in the iconic former Dairy Queen building in Plaza Midwood.

The spot at 1431 Central Ave., is walk-up service only, where diners can order at the window.

The menu includes milk-bread donuts, crispy chicken, toasts, salads, bowls, coffee and soft serve as an ode to the former Dairy Queen. A rotating selection of small production independent wine and beer will be available at night.

“We’re thrilled to be opening our second location of milkbread in such a special building and neighborhood of Charlotte,” co-owner Katy Kindred said in a news release. “We wanted to honor this building for the community and bring a local small business into the space. We spent months renovating it to reflect the milkbread concept and to bring new life to the space.”

Milkbread is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
