Popular salad brand issues recalls in Virginia, 6 other states, for Listeria risk

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (WAVY) If you’ve recently purchased BrightFarms brand salad items, 10 On Your Side has learned the company has issued a recall of several popular products because they could be contaminated with Listeria.

The recall involves products distributed to retailers in seven states, including Virginia. This brand is sold at several local grocery stores, including Harris Teeter, Food Lion, Kroger and BJs Wholesale Club, among others.

Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia are also included in this recall.

According to the FDA, Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and others with weakened immune systems.

No illnesses have been reported in association with this recall.

The products come in 4-oz, clear, plastic containers. Information about the “best by” date, UPC, and facility code can be found at the bottom of the package.

The recall was issued after routine sampling conducted by supplier Element Farms discovered a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes.

What Happens Now

The company has temporarily suspended distribution of Element Farms grown spinach.

Retailers have been instructed to remove all recalled products from store shelves.

If you purchased the affected products, throw it away or bring a photo of the product or receipt to their place of purchase for a full refund and then discard.
