A popular sandwich & spud chain is coming to Waveland. Here’s when it opens

A vacant building at one of the busiest corners in Waveland soon will be home to McAlister’s Deli and possibly other businesses.

A Facebook post by the City of Waveland shows a photo of the former Rite-Aid at 403 U.S. 90 at Nicholson Avenue. A sign stretched across the building reads “coming soon” and has a photo of the deli’s famous tea.

The social media post says construction will begin in the next couple of months, and “the developer is planning on having possibly two more tenants in this building.” t

McAlisters joins the many fast food and fast casual restaurants along U.S. 90 in Waveland.

Beyond grocery stores, “there are not a ton of fresh food and healthier options over that way,” said Anne Pitre, marketing and communications manager for Hancock County Chamber.

McAlister’s is known for its tea, which the company gives away free each year on its anniversary.

The menu features a variety of sandwiches, wraps, soups and a dozen fresh salads.

In addition to favorites like the Buffalo chicken sandwich there are unusual selections like The New Yorker, piled with corned beef, pastrami, Swiss cheese and spicy brown mustard on marbled rye bread.

Oversize potatoes are another signature dish of McAlister’s, topped with butter, veggies or black Angus roast beef. Their “choose two” option lets diners select their two favorites from a half sandwich, salad, spud, shareable or a cup of soup.

McAlister’s has a loyalty program to encourage repeat business, and some items, like the taco salad or chili cheese dip, are available only to rewards members.

McAlister’s has South Mississippi locations in Pascagoula, Ocean Springs, Biloxi, Gulfport, Lucedale and Wiggins.
