Popular Southington Photographer Art Rich Dies Of Coronavirus

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Art Rich, a popular photographer from Southington who was considered talented by his peers in all aspetcs of his profession, died Tuesday after being infected with the coronavirus last month. Rich's daughter, Angel, announced his passing in a social media posting. He was 73.

"Today is a sad day as we had to say goodbye to my father," Angel Rich said on her Facebook page.

She said her father passed at about 1 p.m.

"It just hasn't become a reality yet. We appreciate all the prayers and everyone who has reached out," she said. Condolences have been pouring in and she repeated her appreciation in a private message.

According to previous posts, Rich was admitted to MidState Medical Center on March 29 after his symptoms worsened. He was not allowed visitors. Those who were with him after being exposed are showing no signs of symptoms, the family said. The friends had been in contact with someone who had recently returned from Italy, according to the family.

By last week, Rich had taken a turn for the worse, his daughter said.

Prayers go out to all the families that are also suffering from this pandemic and the health care workers who are doing God's work," Angel Rich said. "We pray that your family stays healthy and safe and are forever grateful for your kind hearts and prayers."

Art Rich mastered both sports and the art of the portrait. His peers in sports touted not only his talent but longevity.

His Main Street studio in Southington was in an historic building that was modernized, but still had "its Victorian beauty."

The studio had two indoor camera rooms, one of which is the largest in the state. Brides never had to worry about the weather because the studio featured an inside garden.

The grounds outside boasted a pond, waterfalls, a gazebo and a bridge leading to a small island.
