Popular new sport reaching new heights in WNY, at Buffalo’s tallest building
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A popular sport in Western New York is reaching new heights.
A pickleball court has been installed in the lobby of the tallest building in Buffalo, Seneca One, and it has become a big hit.
“We started Seneca One Sports a couple months ago as kind of a fun way to kind of bring people together from all across Western New York right here to Buffalo’s iconic landmark,” said Nick Revelas, the event manager at Seneca One. “So we started with ping-pong tournaments and then very quickly talking to the community, pickle ball came to the focus.”
“It’s only been here for a week which is wild and we’ve had over 300 people sign up and it’s really hard to reserve court times. So it’s been an overwhelming success and a big hit and we hope to continue it,” said Adam Leberer, the pickleball manager at Seneca One.
The court is surrounded by 180 degree panoramic views of the city around it. They hope to add two more courts in the future.
“It definitely answers demand in the city for indoor pickleball courts and it’s also a great addition to the building,” said Tommy Parshall, the assistant property manager at Seneca One.
5th annual Black Doll returns to Buffalo Central Library
“It’s probably one of the best courts in Western New York,” Leberer said. “We thought we could kind of bring this to Seneca One and have not just the people who work here but also the people who live here get to enjoy the court and that sense of community that it fosters.”
They’re hoping more people will come pick up a paddle and try out the sport.
“The great thing about pickleball can be as friendly and competitive as you want. You can have friendly matches or we have some serious players that like to come here too. so we kind of get that great mix, and the bar is always open and that’s a fun aspect of it too,” Leberer said.
