Popular sports bar and restaurant closes in Wilmington's Mayfaire shopping center
The Wilmington location of a sports bar chain closed abruptly on Monday. Fox & Hound Bar and Grill was located at 920 Town Center Drive in the Mayfaire shopping center near Wrightsville Beach.
The webpage for the Wilmington location has been deleted and the restaurant's phone number is no longer active.
According to social media posts, employees were unaware of the closure when they arrived for work and a restaurant liquidation sale is planned for this week. A 2016 report from the Nation’s Restaurant News publication said Fox & Hound once operated 48 locations but closed 11 of them that year. Now, five locations are listed on the restaurant's website, in Illinois, Texas, Kansas, Tennessee and Huntersville, N.C.
In addition to the sports bar and grill near Mayfaire's movie theater, the restaurant had also operated as a ghost kitchen beginning in 2020 for concepts like Nashville Hot Chicken Shack and American Grilled Cheese Company, which were available for delivery.
Fox & Hound opened in the shopping center in 2005.
"We are disappointed to learn that Fox & Hound will be leaving Mayfaire," said Paige Coniglio, leasing manager and marketing director for the shopping center. "Our top priority is to provide a vibrant shopping and dining environment."
She added that they'll be looking for a new business for the space, and that Anthropologie will be opening at Mayfaire in November and construction is underway on Westin's Element Hotel, which is slated to open in late 2024.
