WASHINGTON — Cummins Restaurant is on the move again. This time, its location is to blend aspects of its previous incarnations.

The new Cummins location is to be at 111 Eastgate Drive, a multi-tenant building across U.S. Route 24 from the main entrance to Illinois Central College in East Peoria. Currently, Cummins is located at 1869 Washington Road in Washington.

No timeline for the move was included in a Facebook post that announced it. Details are to come, the post stated.

The Journal Star left a telephone message with restaurant co-owner Lynne Cummins.

Cummins has experience with drive-thru service

A Subway sandwich restaurant once occupied the new Cummins space. Subway had a drive-thru window, which Cummins plans to retain, according to the Facebook post. Indoor dining also is to be offered.

This will not be the first time Cummins has provided drive-thru service. Briefly a few years ago, Cummins operated a carryout/drive-thru branch at 245 Farmdale Road in East Peoria.

Currently, BBQ Smokewagon occupies that Farmdale Road space. Previous tenants included a Sonic restaurant and a short-lived branch of Lou's Drive-In, an iconic presence along Knoxville Avenue in Peoria.

Four decades of family-restaurant history

For almost 40 years, the Cummins name has been emblazoned on restaurants in the Peoria area, on both sides of the Illinois River.

Cummins and her husband, Bill Cummins, first opened their eponymous restaurant in 1984. It was situated at two locations in Peoria and another in Washington, each one for about a decade.

About five years ago, Cummins operated a location near the East Peoria Levee District. Last year, that Cummins outlet made way for wRap City, a restaurant that specializes in wraps and a hip-hop-tinged menu and decor.

The Cummins restaurant empire also has included other-named outlets in East Peoria and Metamora.
