Palm Beach dining: Popularity of flatbreads on the rise at La Goulue

Anyone who’s unfamiliar with French flatbreads — they’re known as tartes flambées in France’s Alsace region — can now find a tasty introduction in Palm Beach.

La Goulue, at the corner of Royal Palm Way and South County Road, has begun serving thin-and-crispy Alsatian-style flatbreads.

Priced from $24 to $32 each, they’re baked in the French bistro’s wood-burning oven.

The most popular one so far features a traditional combination of Alsatian tarte flambée toppings: crème fraiche, onions and bacon.

Other varieties served at La Goulue include one with seasonal wild mushrooms, crème fraiche and onions, and another with Norwegian smoked salmon, crème fraiche and onions.

Also offered: a daily-changing special flatbread by La Goulue’s executive chef Gwenaël “Gwen” Le Pape.

Enjoy dim sum at Echo

Elsewhere in town, pan-Asian restaurant Echo at 230 Sunrise Ave. is featuring a special a la carte dim sum menu through Friday in celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year.

With dim sum offerings starting at $20, the special menu — offered in addition to Echo’s regular menus — includes such items as crispy lobster wontons, Shanghai soup dumplings, Kung Pao chicken shumai, Peking duck bao buns and pan-fried pork potstickers.
