Porch Talk: Fall is here in Maury County

It can not be denied that autumn has arrived. The weather is getting cooler, the days are becoming shorter and families are beginning to spend cozy evenings together, plus participate in fun fall activities in the area.

Pumpkin, spice and everything nice, fall has made its way to town.

This week, the Daily Herald asked the public how they know fall is here in Maury County.

Here are the fall ponderings they shared.

"You have to wait for fool's fall first. Halfway through September, it'll drop down to 70 degrees, but then two days later, it'll be back in the 90s. However, after the fool's fall has passed, the trees begin to change shades. Towards the beginning of October, the trees get those nice warm colors. It reminds me of an idyllic town in movies or T.V. shows."

- August Flanigan, Columbia resident

"It's the crisp feeling in the air. Everyone is out walking."

- Susan Vinton, Columbia resident

"Everybody is out again. It feels like everyone hibernated in the summer, hiding from the sun or at the pool. Now everybody is out on the square. And it's porch season. We love it."

- Andrea Jacobsen, Columbia resident

"The weather gets cooler, and people are getting prepared for the holidays. I do a lot more sitting out on the porch, having a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. When the weather gets much colder, I read "Home for Christmas" by Lloyd. C. Douglas each year to get into the holiday mood."

- James Lund, Columbia resident

"You can usually tell by the pretty leaves and by the pumpkins and the kids getting excited for Halloween. I also enjoy walking around my farm as the weather cools down."

- Barbara Rountree, a Santa Fe resident for over 80 years

"There's a different smell in the air, and people seem to be out more when the temperature is dropping. The decorations start coming out, and people start getting into more of a holiday mood. I also enjoy hiking the Natchez Trace Parkway. There is no better way to watch the leaves turn than when surrounded by trees."

- Chessica Runyon, a Hampshire resident her whole life
