Websites usually don't like to talk about huge dips in their traffic, but that's exactly what Pornhub did, revealing exactly how much it traffic suffered during the Super Bowl.

According to a blog post (SFW link) Monday, U.S. traffic on the porn site dropped by 27% compared to usual levels shortly after the game began Sunday. It appears to have recovered slightly during halftime, but it stayed low until the end of the game, when it jumped to 9% more than usual, presumably because some football fans wanted to celebrate victory — or drown their sorrows — with a bit of X-rated action.

Pornhub also looked at traffic coming from the home states of the Patriots and Falcons — Massachusetts and Georgia — and found a big dip in Massachusetts traffic during the last quarter of the game, when the tide started to turn in favor of the Patriots. A similar anomaly occurred after the game; traffic from both states jumped above usual levels, but more so from Massachusetts.

Perhaps the most interesting bit of insight from the post are all the odd, football-related search queries users typed into Pornhub during the game. There was a big spike in searches for "Super Bowl," "NFL" and "Football."

Perhaps the most interesting search spike is that for "halftime" — as one commenter under the post put it, "I didn't know there was half time porn."
