Porsche Carrera GT Crashes on California BackroadPorsche

With a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V-10, 603 hp, and a notorious finicky manual transmission, Porsche's legendary Carrera GT supercar requires a certain degree of respect behind the wheel, as one driver found out over the weekend. Over the weekend, videos of a severely damaged GT Silver Porsche Carrera GT crashed off the side of a California highway began circulating around social media.

According to eyewitness reports shared with Road & Track and with confirmation from the California Highway Patrol, the Porsche Carrera GT crashed on SR-35 (Skyline Blvd) north of Rapley Ranch Road in San Mateo County around 9:15 am on Sunday, April 28th. Both occupants received minor injuries and declined medical attention on the scene. It remains unclear if the driver was the registered owner of the notoriously fickle supercar.

"The preliminary investigation indicates unsafe speed contributed to the crash, however, the circumstances are still under investigation," a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol said in a statement to Road & Track. "From the looks of it, the vehicle is registered to a company, not a person."

Videos and photos following the crash show extensive damage to the roof, hood, windows, and front right wheel assembly of the Carrera GT. The occupants of the vehicle requested AAA come to recover the vehicle, not a CHP rotation tow. Being one of 1270 units made, finding replacement parts for such a rare supercar will likely be difficult and it remains unclear if the vehicle was totaled.
