Porsche Macan SUVs Are Recalled Due to a Fire Risk

Porsche is recalling more than 70,000 of its 2015-2018 Macan SUVs because of concerns that a fuel leak could develop and increase the risk of a fire.
The problem is caused by the fuel pump service cover, which could come into contact with part of the fuel pump. Over time, that could cause a crack to develop, leading to a fuel leak.
Porsche said in an email to Consumer Reports that no accidents or injuries have been reported as a result of this issue.
The Details
Vehicles recalled: 2015-2018 model year Porsche Macan SUVs manufactured from March 4, 2014, to March 12, 2018.
The problem: Porsche says that under certain rare circumstances, the fuel pump service cover can deflect and put pressure on the flow nozzle of the fuel pump’s filter flange. Continuous contact could cause hairline cracks to develop in the filter flange, which could lead to seepage. The odor of fuel will indicate whether the problem is present.
The fix: Porsche has not yet developed a remedy. But it says Macan SUVs manufactured after March 12, 2018, have a redesigned fuel pump service cover. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expects this recall to begin on April 10, 2020.
