Port Chester is receiving $1.2 million to fund repairs to roads damaged during Hurricane Ida.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-New York) announced on Tuesday that approximately $1,216,000 in federal funding will be given to the Village of Port Chester as reimbursement for the repair and replacement of roads, including work that was already completed on Glen Avenue.

“Following Hurricane Ida in 2021, the Village of Port Chester stepped up and completed critically needed work to repair damaged roads, including extensive work along Glen Avenue,” Gillibrand said. “I am excited to announce this funding, which will finally reimburse Port Chester for these crucial efforts, and I will continue to fight for funding to support municipalities and their responses to natural disasters across New York state.”

Hurricane Ida devastated many parts of the Lower Hudson Valley in 2021, causing flood damage to infrastructure all across the area. Westchester County was affected most heavily, while Rockland and Orange counties also suffered less significant damage.

Both Gillibrand and Gov. Kathy Hochul have announced local programs to provide funding assistance for Ida storm damage relief, including $20 million dollars in Hochul's Hurricane Ida Recovery Action Plan and Gillibrand's push for legislation last month to include $81 million for statewide disaster relief funding in the congressional budget.
