Port St. Lucie's Roberts leads locals at state bowling, golfers compete at regionals

Port St. Lucie’s Nancy Roberts bowled a 591 series to finish 25th in individual qualifying at the FHSAA Bowling State Championships Monday in Orlando.

Roberts bowled a high game of 213 and finished 14 pins shy of making the top 16 to advance to bracket play.

Both girls programs that advanced from the District 12 tournament struggled in the team competition as Vero Beach placed 28th and Martin County was 30th out of the 34 qualifying teams.

For the Tigers, Emelia Koehler bowled a 544 series with a high game of 192 to finish 48th in individual qualifying.

Vero Beach was led by Angeli Atayde, who bowled a 488 series with a high game of 180.

Region 4-2A Girls Golf

Jensen Beach's girls golf team finished a strong fourth as a team at Tuesday's Region 4-2A Championship in Plantation at Plantation Preserve Golf and Country Club.

All four top scorers for the Falcons placed in the top 25 with seniors Grace Ayers and Hannah Erwig both shooting 83.

Juniors Chloe Sebuck and Faith Ayers were two shots higher with an 85.

Jensen Beach will await to see if they earn an at-large berth to the 2A state tournament, that takes place Nov. 15-16 in Howey-in-the-Hills at Mission Inn.

Region 2-3A Girls Golf

Vero Beach's girls golf team finished fourth and Martin County finished in sixth at Tuesday's Region 2-3A Championship in St. Cloud at Royal St. Cloud Golf Links.

Vero Beach junior Hailey Eisert, Martin County freshman Abby Halpern and Sebastian River junior Saphira Vath all tied for 17th with rounds of 7-over 79.

Vero Beach sophomore Dounia Bezzari was two shots higher with an 81 to finish in a tie for 24th.

Teams and individuals will await to see if they will earn an at-large berth to the 3A state tournament that takes place Nov. 8-9.

Region 4-1A Boys Golf

Morningside Academy's boys finished sixth as a team at Tuesday's Region 4-1A Championship at Crandon Golf in Key Biscayne.

Eagle senior Jules Gentil led the way with a bogey-free round of 2-under 70 that included birdies on the first and 16th holes to finish in a tie for third overall.

Pine School junior J. Paul Jacobs, Morningside Academy senior Owen Rogers and junior Ryan Lue all shot 7-over 79 to finish in a tie for 24th.

Gentil was the lone player to secure a berth to the 2A state tournament on Nov. 12-13 and teams and individuals will await to hear if they receive at-large berths to also compete at state next week.

South Fork junior Lily Boulter shot a 10-over 80 to finish in a tie for eighth at Tuesday's 2-2A Championship in Orlando at Dubsdread Golf Course.

Boulter made one birdie in her round and will have to wait to see if she earns an at-large berth to the 2A state tournament in two weeks.
