Portage County high school scores | April 26: Mason Williams excels for Mogadore baseball

Mason Williams had a stellar performance on the mound Wednesday to lift Mogadore to a 3-1 baseball victory over visiting Rootstown.

Williams allowed just an unearned run, a walk and two hits en route to the complete-game win.

Austin Constantine sparked the Wildcats from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Sean Boveington and Brady Kreitzburg had the Rovers' lone hits, with Kreitzburg allowing just three runs (one earned) over five innings.

Waterloo 11, Western Reserve 10

Facing a big deficit after yielding five runs in the top of the first, the Vikings rallied to take the lead, including a seven-run third.

Aric May and Trevor Simons each had multiple hits for Waterloo and Anthony Podojil struck out 10.

Roosevelt 10, Copley 5

The Rough Riders finished a game that was postponed earlier in the season due to darkness, shutting down their Suburban American foes in the bottom of the seventh.

Before the darkness fell weeks ago, Copley had taken a 5-4 lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth before Roosevelt surged back in front with a six-run seventh.

Jason Spurlock tossed 10 of 17 pitches for strikes to finish out the game Wednesday, while Mikey Haney II, Sam Lanier, Teddy Maccarone and Ryan Schromm all tallied multiple hits for the Rough Riders (12-3, 7-2).

Warren JFK 19, Southeast 1

The Pirates fell despite two hits by Evan Riffle as the Eagles scored in every inning of their Portage Trail Conference game.

Softball

Crestwood 20, Kirtland 10

The Red Devils put forward a brilliant offensive performance, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings and tallying 22 hits in total.

Maddy Dustman and Mia Gullatta had six RBIs apiece for Crestwood, with Dustman going 4-for-4 and Gullatta blasting a grand slam.

Aimee Barnauskas and Erin Hallis both added doubles for the Red Devils and Bella Hunter (7-4) got the win in the circle.

Aurora 13, Barberton 2

The visiting Greenmen were similarly dominant, pounding out 20 hits, including a five-run first.

Lailah Bohanan had a stellar day for Aurora, allowing two runs (one earned) in four innings to get the win in the circle and going 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs at the plate.

McKennah Metzger (3-for-3, 4 RBIs, 2 R) and Maggie McVicker also homered for the Greenmen, while Sophie Petrash went 4-for-4, Rayna Unverferth went 3-for-4 and Sophie Retton went 2-for-4.

Rootstown 12, Lake Center 0

Shelbie Krieger struck out 11 over four scoreless innings and added two doubles at the plate.

Natalie Hammerschmidt added a double, a single and a team-leading four RBIs while Grace Luli had two singles and three RBIs for Rootstown, which scored in every inning.

Western Reserve 14, Waterloo 7

The Blue Devils scored three runs in four of seven innings to top the Vikings in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Scarlet Division game.

Savannah Francis had three singles, Regan Heilman singled and doubled and Alana Holmes doubled for Waterloo.

Bayley English, Miranda Long and Kamryn Lynn had two singles apiece for the Vikings.

Cloverleaf 7, Ravenna 3

The visiting Colts took the lead with a run in the first and four in the second and never let up, despite the Ravens scoring three in the second.

Madison Artz and Morgan Decker each had multiple hits for Ravenna.

Boys Tennis

Ravenna 3, Coventry 2

The Ravens' depth came through in a Metro Athletic Conference win.

Despite falling at first and second singles, Ravenna prevailed with Preston Hatcher (third singles), Ben Rainone and Lily Schofield (first doubles) and Derick Skilton and Chauncy Walton (second doubles) all winning in straight sets.
