Portage County NAACP sells out 12th annual Freedom Fund event

The Portage County NAACP hosted its 12th annual Freedom Fund event Oct. 14 at Northeast Ohio Medical University's NEW Center with a sold-out crowd.

The keynote speaker was Andre Washington, the second vice president of the NAACP Ohio Conference.

Special guests included the Mime Ministry of the New Hope Baptist Church of Akron and a vocal performance by Jeff Sanders, with music provided by HD Harry Dukes. Brad Bolton provided photography for the event.

Portage NAACP President Renee Romine thanked the 150 people who attended the event, along with the individuals and organizations that sponsored the event. Silver sponsors included Family & Community Services and Northeast Ohio Medical University. This year's awardees were: Michelle Cobbin Jones, president's award; Barbara Hanniford, social justice award; Jordan Jones, youth leadership award; Leslee Keegan, community service award; and Christopher Miller and Quintus Motley of Magic City Customs, economic development award.
