SOUTH BEND — The Portage Township Trustee's office will temporarily relocate to a new location for all of 2024, then reopen. That will allow its current office at 133 N. William St. in downtown to undergo renovations that run from March until the fall of 2024.

The temporary office will be at 340 Columbia St., which is behind the downtown post office. The hours will remain the same, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 8 a.m. to noon Fridays, and signage will direct residents to the new site.

The last day of operations at William Street will be Dec. 22, and the Columbia Street office will open Jan. 2.

Renovations will include the installation of a fire suppression system, increased handicap accessibility and updated technology.

"This renovation is much needed for both safety purposes as well as creating more efficient operations for residents,” Trustee Jason Critchlow said in a press release. “The temporary location is nearby, located on a bus line, and provides good accessibility for residents."
