Man dies after fiery crash that shut down St. Petersburg’s Tyrone Boulevard

ST. PETERSBURG — A 25-year-old male died Saturday in the hospital after a St. Petersburg crash that left him trapped in his vehicle with life-threatening burns and injuries.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m., when a car driving south on Tyrone Boulevard lost control, flipped and caught fire, the St. Petersburg Police Department said. The driver, Demond Lamar Perry, 25, was trapped in the car and taken to Tampa General Hospital with “life-threatening burns and injuries.”

Perry died Saturday, police said in a media release Saturday afternoon.

The crash left Tyrone Boulevard closed in both directions for a quarter mile between Fifth Avenue N and Ninth Avenue North, police said. The road reopened late Saturday morning.
