Whitefield Academy girls advance, Portland Christian falls in All 'A' Classic tournament

Noel Smith scored a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds and five steals to lead the Whitefield Academy girls basketball team to a 49-36 victory over Menifee County on Wednesday in the first round of the All “A” Classic in Richmond, Ky.

Camryn Poole scored 14 points and Amy Thompson pitched in 11 points and four assists for Whitefield (16-4), which will face Hancock County in Friday’s 11:30 a.m. quarterfinal.

Up 18-16 at halftime, Whitefield outscored Menifee County 15-5 in the third quarter to take control.

Shalyne Baker had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Menifee County (14-7), which shot just 29.4% and committed 26 turnovers.

Alayah Quisenberry posted 18 points, six rebounds and four steals to lead the Admirals (19-1) over the Eagles (15-2).

Desiree Tandy had 15 points, six rebounds and four steals and Samantha Bottom pitched in 11 points for Danville, which will face Pikeville in Friday’s 10 a.m. quarterfinal.

Danville won the rebounding battle 51-34 and converted Portland Christian’s 26 turnovers into 33 points.

The Admirals have won 19 straight games since dropping their season opener to Pulaski County, 52-40.

Ellie Heid had 13 points and seven steals to lead Portland Christian, which shot just 26.9% (14 of 52).
