Portland, St. Johns girls tennis claim titles, East Lansing finishes as runner-up at regional

Portland had four flight champions while capturing a Division 4 regional girls tennis championship on Thursday.

The host Raiders finished with 22 points and was six points ahead of runner-up Ovid-Else.

Lansing Catholic and Lakewood tied for third with 14 points.

Portland had champions at two singles and doubles flights while winning the regional. Alyssa Jack won at No 1 singles and Adriana Krieger won at No. 2 singles as the top seeds at their flights.

Elizabeth Seavey and Allyson Logel were the champions at No. 2 doubles and Sadie Carey and Bryanna Hengesbach took the title at No. 3 doubles for the Raiders.

Ovid-Elsie junior Christina Rademacher-Vine won the title at No. 3 singles in three sets and was the lone flight champion for the Marauders.

Lakewood had a pair of flight champions with Alli Pickard and Abby Pickard winning at No. 1 doubles as the second seed and Liv Everett and Paige Wolverton taking the title at No. 4 doubles as the top seed.

Lansing Catholic’s Mariana Prieto was the champion at No. 4 singles.

Division 3 at Haslett

St. Johns took titles at three of the four singles flights while capturing a team regional title Thursday. The Redwings had 24 points, while Williamston finished as the runner-up with 19 points. Haslett had 18 points to place third.

Sisters Bailee Thelen and Isabel Thelen won as the top seeds at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, while Liv Kudwa was the No. 4 singles champion as the second seed to lead the Redwings.

St. Johns also had a champion at doubles with Kaylee Woodbury and Kennedy Sturgis winning at No. 3.

Haslett had three champions with top seed Richa Shah winning at No. 1 singles. Prabhleen Pawar and Kathleen Leighton took the title at No. 1 doubles and Ela Emden and Delaney Frank won the crown at No. 4 doubles.

Williamston had the No. 2 doubles champions in Maggie Sinke and Lili McGuire.

Division 2 at Mason

CAAC Blue co-champion East Lansing had 24 points while finishing as the runner-up at this regional. Battle Creek Lakeview claimed the team title with 25 points.

Host Mason finished third with 21 points and DeWitt placed fourth with 13 points.

East Lansing was led by its doubles flights and had three champions at the regional. Emma Mae Baker and Sabrina Gresens were the No. 4 seed at No. 1 doubles and emerged as the champions for the Trojans.

McKenzie McGill and Erika Stokstad claimed the title at No. 2 doubles as the top seed, while Ella Miller and Ayusha Subedi were the champions at No, 3 doubles for East Lansing. The Trojans also got runner-up finishes from Leah Wronikowski at No. 2 singles and Grace Rose at No. 3 singles.

Mason had a pair of flight champions, which included Emma Chrome at No. 1 singles. Ava Hicks and Joey VanMeter were the champions at No. 4 doubles.

Division 1 at Midland

Okemos led all area teams and placed fourth at this regional with 11 points. Emly Wang led the performers for the Wolves, finishing as the runner-up at No. 1 singles.
