Portland-region thaw will ramp up Friday afternoon

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Warmer temperatures and rain will help melt winter away. Freezing rain and colder temperatures slip away as slushy roads begin to clear around the Portland area Friday.

The warming trend will be slow, but winter threats will melt away with temperatures warming to the mid to upper-30s Friday. Some areas around Portland could near the low to mid-40s Friday afternoon. Easterly winds from the Columbia River Gorge will keep other locations, like Portland, slightly cooler than others.

Clouds will remain over the greater Portland and Vancouver area Friday as wind gusts near 35-40 mph. Gusty winds will keep the power outage risk elevated Friday as weakened trees and wet soil could help bring down additional trees.

Road improvements will continue throughout the day as dry and warmer weather clears major paths. Some side streets in the shade will likely melt much slower than freeways.

Temperatures jump nearly 10 degrees from Friday to Tuesday as afternoon highs return to the low-50s. Above average temperatures won’t slow the chance for rain next week. Soggy conditions will continue to keep Oregon and Washington damp through the end of next week.
