Portland woman, teenager die in crash on Interstate 5 in Albany

A 56-year-old Portland woman and a teenager were killed early Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 through Albany near the junction with U.S. Route 20, according to the Oregon State Police.

A preliminary investigation determined the northbound driver of an Infiniti QX5 rear-ended a Nissan Rogue at about 3:17 a.m., causing the Infinity to leave the freeway and strike several trees, OSP said.

The driver of the Infiniti was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two passengers in the Infinity, Kimberly Ritter of Portland and the teenager, were declared dead at the scene. A second teenager was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

OSP was assisted by the Albany Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation. An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
