Portsmouth boys, Dover girls both place third at DI state track championship

HANOVER - Senior Avery Crowell had two individual top-three finishes, was part of a winning relay as well as another top-three relay, helping guide the Portsmouth High School boys track team to a third-place finish at Sunday's Division I state meet at Dartmouth College.

Bedford scored 60 points and won the Division I championship, while Pinkerton (44) was second, one point ahead of Portsmouth. Exeter was sixth with 30 points. Dover (6) and Winnacunnet (1) placed 14th and 17th, respectively in the 17-team field.

Crowell placed second in the 1,000 meters in a time of 2 minutes, 38.23 seconds, trailing just Bedford's Jacob Redman (2:36.25). Crowell was third in the 1,500 (1:24.346), trailing Redman (4:04.56) and Exeter's Matthew Allen (4:11.50).

Crowell, Zac Amend, Brody Parrott and Jack Haley won the 4x800-meter relay in 8:31.78. Crowell, Parrott, Haley and Ethan Lantz placed second in the 4x400-meter relay (3:39.45).

Haley finished third in the 1,000 (2:43.05), while Jason Yeaton was fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.50) and Frank Krupp was sixth in the shot put (43 feet, 05 inches).

Exeter's Dettore shines in long jump

Michael Dettore placed second in the long jump (20-09.75), while Gavin Malark was fourth in the 1,000 (2:43.31).

Malark, Allen, Colin Grant and Griffin Rice placed third in the 4x400 relay (3:40.69), and Dettore, Grant, Lachlan Becker and Dylan Drunsic (1:38.62) placed fourth in the 4x200.

Mourgenos shines for Dover; Winnacunnet's Marelli places

Dover's Caden Mourgenos placed fourth in the 300 (37.07), while Clayton Johnson, Melo Berdecia, Maddox Walker and Ethan Fiorenza was fifth in the 4x800 relay (8:53.47).

Winnacunnet's Erik Marelli was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles (8.55).

Poulin, McIntyre lead Dover

Dover's Anique Poulin won the 600 (1:39.1) and Isabel McIntyre won the 1,000 (3:10.11), leading the Green Wave.

Pinkerton won the meet with 75 points, while Bedford (57) and Dover (40) placed second and third, respectively. Portsmouth (38) was fifth. Exeter (16) was 10th, and Winnacunnet (2) was 15th in the 15-team field.

Other highlights for Dover included Margaret Spuler (3,000, fourth, 11:18.48), Alyson Bortz (3,000, fifth, 11:35.07) and the foursome of Madeline Cachrach, Spuler, Isabella Bronson and McIntyre placed fourth in the 4x800 (10:31.72).

Mada leads way for Portsmouth

Miriam Mada led the Clippers, placing second in the long jump (16-06.75).

Lily Jenkins was fourth in the 55 (7.46) and fifth in the 300 (43.42), Avery Timerman was fourth in the 600 (1:43.39), and Sally Collins was fifth in the 600 (1:44.03).

Mada, Timerman, Avery Ruhnke and Jenkins placed second in the 4x200 relay (1:49.71). Mia Scherr, Lea Vera, Kelsey Campbell and Ruhnke placed third in the 4x800 (10:21.45), and Sarah Sokolnicki, Jenkins, Collins and Timerman placed fourth in the 4x400 (4:18.91).

"Everybody did pretty well," Portsmouth head coach Stan Lyford said. "We were hoping for a few more points, but the way things fell, we were programmed to be seventh and we ended up fifth, so we were happy with that. We had as good a team performance as we were going to have."

Exeter's three top performers

Meadow Gregory was third in the 600 (1:41.73), Rayna Thompson was fifth in the 55 (7.54) and Clara Knab was sixth in the 600 (1:45.70)

Exeter's Ainsley Grant, Taylor Seaman, Knab and Gregory were third in the 4x400 (4:17.11), and the foursome of Thompson, Annie Christiana, Seaman and Martelle McBride was sixth in the 4x200 (1:52.85).

Winnacunnet has two sixth-place finishes

Taylor Boies placed sixth in the 1,000 (3:32.02), while the foursome of Liana Pacheco, Moxie Clifford, Teagan Rooney and Mia Sciacca placed sixth in the 4x400 (4:22.84).
