PORTSMOUTH — The city of Portsmouth held a reception honoring Laura Pantelakos before the City Council meeting on Monday, Oct. 3. A member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives representing Rockingham 25, she was first elected in 1978 and, after 44 years of service, decided not to seek re-election in 2022. Her current term ends on Dec. 7, 2022.

She and her husband Charles had four sons and three daughters. She was a member of the City Council from 2000 to 2010, a member of the Fire Commission for four years and served as its chair. She was also a member of the Portsmouth City Delegation, now the Legislative Subcommittee, and was its chair.

Mayor Deaglan McEachern noted that election after election the citizens of Portsmouth re-elected her “because they loved her, and because Laura loved them back.” Rep. Pantelakos noted the three things of which she is most proud are “my children, my grandchildren/great grandchildren and serving the people of Portsmouth.”
