Portsmouth police looking for 28-year-old person of interest in connection with May 22 murder

Police are looking for a 28-year-old man who is a person of interest in connection with a murder in Portsmouth over a month ago.

Officials are working to locate Jaylond Lydell Johnson, of Portsmouth, for questioning about a shooting that killed a man and injured a woman, according to a news release.

The shooting happened around 3:15 a.m. May 22 near the 5000 block of George Washington Highway.

Officers found Jeffrey Lamont Baysmore Jr., 24, who died at the scene. A 29-year-old woman had also been shot and taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, the release said.
