Diaspora Radio plays 'Speaking In Tongues'

St. Nicholas Greek Festival returns in Portsmouth

The oh-so-yummy St. Nicholas Greek Festival is back in Portsmouth this weekend after pandemic cancellations the last two years. There'll be lamb shanks, chicken souvlaki, pastichio, moussaka, spanakopita, a gyro basket with Greek fries, Greek salad and more. Homemade pastries (while they last) include: baklava, kourambiethes, finikia, and chocolate saragli. Better get there early on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 when the festival runs noon to 9 p.m. each day on the church grounds on  Andrew Jarvis Drive in Portsmouth. The party with live music, dancing and marketplace is rain or shine with no admission fee.

Tour the Pocket Gardens of Portsmouth

The 33rd annual Pocket Gardens of Portsmouth Tour will take place Friday and Saturday, June 24 and 25. The self-guided tour lets you wander through the Goodwin Park neighborhood of Portsmouth where tucked behind the 19th-century homes are a diverse representation of gardens. You will have access to 13 gardens on a walk just over a mile. Presented by South Church Unitarian Universalist of Portsmouth, the tour will run 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 pm. on Saturday. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 on the day of the tour. Living History Day at Fort Constitution

History comes alive this Saturday, June 25 from 9:30 to 4 p.m. at Fort Constitution in New Castle. There will be infantry drills and musket firing by the 1st and 2nd New Hampshire militia, Fife & Drum music by the Piscataqua Rangers and an array of events, all presented by Friends of Fort Constitution. Tickets are $15 for adults; children under 14 are free. Seacoast Wing Festival on Saturday in Eliot

The second annual Seacoast Wing Festival will take place on Saturday, June 25 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Raitt Homestead Farm Museum. Guests will sample a variety of wing flavors from local food trucks and restaurants, then vote for their favorite.

The festival also offers craft beer, cocktails, live music, craft vendors, a wing eating contest and a variety of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Advance general admission is $15. Portsmouth Pride returns with parade, marketplace

Portsmouth Pride 2022 will return to its pre-pandemic events for a larger celebration than past years on Saturday, June 25

Pride march participants will gather in Market Square at noon and march to Strawbery Banke Museum, where the festivities will continue with music on stage, a nearly 100-vendor marketplace, community resource booths, the Throwback Brewery Party Tent and food trucks. The event will run until 5 p.m.

Speakers scheduled to appear include Deaglan McEachern, mayor of Portsmouth; Congressman Chris Pappas, D-New Hampshire; Hershey Hirschkopf, Seacoast Outright executive director; Palana Hunt-Hawkins, TransAction NH; Jen McGowan (big) and Cyrus (little), Big Brothers Big Sisters NH; and Jules Good, Neighborhood Access.

From 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, there will be a free Youth After-Party at First United Methodist Church. There'll be dancing, pizza and drag shows.

Simultaneously, there will be a 21-plus After Party at Tour in Portsmouth from 7 to10 p.m. Tickets for this event are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Hosted by Bianca York, there'll be dancing, specialty cocktails, lawn games, golf and drag artistry.

There'll be a Pride Tea Dance featuring DJ Skooch at The Press Room in Portsmouth from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. The dance party is 21-plus and there is a $5 cover charge.

A Pride Pop-Up with DJ Skooch will take place at Liar's Bench on Islington Street in Portsmouth on Saturday, June 25 from 9 to 11 p.m.

A Drag Brunch will take place on Sunday, June 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Portsmouth Feed Co. on Pleasant Street in Portsmouth.

There'll be an Anniversary Park Hang presented by Lezhang Seacoast at Henry Law Park in Dover from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 26.

"Dive In to Pride," a cabaret and variety show produced by Dive In Productions, will be performed at The Player's Ring theater on Marcy Street in Portsmouth at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26. Tickets are $15 and are available at playersring.org/dive-in-pride.

The best of beer and sand

The second annual Beach and Brew Fest will take place at Hampton Beach State Park on Saturday, June 26. There will be plenty of breweries on hand including event sponsor Smuttynose and Smuttlabs, Stripe Nine Brewing Co., Loaded Question Brewing, Long Blue Cat Brewery Co., Northwoods Brewing Co., and Whym Craft Pub and Brewery. Hampton’s Big Bad Food Truck will also be there.

VIP session will kick things off at 1 p.m. Those ticket holders will be allowed to stay through the entire event and will be joined by general admission ticket holders at 2:30 p.m. with no intermission.

Tickets sales have been brisk, but as of press time there were VIP ($45), general admission ($35), and non-drinker ($15) tickets still available and they include parking for the day. Tickets can be purchased at events.beerfests.com/e/beach-brew-fest/tickets.

Art and Poetry opening reception

The Racial Unity Team invites you to an Art and Poetry Opening Reception on Saturday, June 25, from 2 to 4 p.m., under the tent beside the Portsmouth Public Library, 175 Parrott Ave., Portsmouth. Come view the exhibit and meet the artists and poets. Award winners will be announced and refreshments will be serviced. COVID protocols will be followed. Event is free and open to the public.

Christian Music Festival at Hampton Beach

The 2022 Hampton Beach Christian Music Festival is this coming Sunday, June 26, from noon to 9 p.m. on the Sea Shell Stage at the beach. Admission is free for everyone. Eight bands will be performing including musical artists Dave Pettigrew, Ben Fuller, the Stephen Bell Trio, Tenley Westbrook, Dave Spaulding and The Double Edge Blues Band, and others.

Galactic at Cisco Brewers Portsmouth

At Cisco Brewers Portsmouth on the Pease International Tradeport, The Press Room will present Galactic on Sunday, June 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 day of show, and are available at portsmouthnhtickets.com/events/galactic-6-26-2022. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for this 21-plus, rain or shine show. The New Orleans-LA quintet Galactic has been together for 25 years, 10 albums, over 2,000 gigs and tens of millions of streams.Vocal powerhouse Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph will join them.
