Portsmouth woman arrested after 3-month-old found dead

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A Portsmouth woman is facing charges in the death of her 3-month-old child.

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Kristen Vassar, 25, is charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of child endangerment and two counts of drug possession after a 911 call was received about an unresponsive infant.

On Feb. 6, police arrived at Vassar’s apartment in the 1900 block of Kendall Avenue and pronounced the 3-month-old dead at the scene. The initial cause of death is unknown, and the infant was sent to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

Detectives searched the apartment, collected evidence and interviewed Vassar along with several witnesses. Vassar was taken into custody without incident. She is being held in the Scioto County Jail and was issued a $180,000 bond on Feb. 7 in Portsmouth Municipal Court.
