(Bloomberg) -- Portuguese firefighters continue to face forest fires in the northern district of Castelo Branco, RTP reported on its website.
More than 800 firefighters as well as aircraft are dealing with the fire that started in the municipality of Vila de Rei on Saturday, the broadcaster said. The fires in the municipality of Serta were brought under control overnight. Some villages in the region had to be evacuated on Saturday.
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said in a statement late Saturday that he is concerned about the fires and is in “constant contact” with the four mayors of the affected areas.
