Pose boss shares doubts over Candy's death plot

Pose's death storyline for Candy Ferocity during season 2 has been addressed by co-creator Steven Canals.
Sitting down for an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, he admitted there were initial doubts from the team, but real-life tragedies reminded them that Pose could be educational for fans.

"That was a tough story for us to tell," Canals began. "We went back and forth quite a bit as a writers' room. We had a lot of conversations around: 'Should we tell this story? Should we not tell this story?' And ultimately we chose to tell it specifically because...
"We'll have a general blueprint for where we want the season to start, and where we want the season to end. For example, in season 1, we knew that Blanca was going to become Mother of the Year at the end of the season finale, but we didn't necessarily know the full scope of the journey to get there.
"So I think similarly we knew what the end of season 2 was going to be," he continued.
"We had a good sense of where it was going. But the individual steps to getting there weren't always fleshed out. And so we had just finished episode three, and we were asking, what do we want episode four to be about?"

Acknowledging outside inspirations, the series boss went on to explain: "In the midst of talking about the story here in the US, in a span of like four days, three Black transgender women were murdered.
"It was just this really stark reminder that the trans community globally – not just in the US – is still having to fight for their rights; is still having to fight to exist; is still having to seek out safety and opportunities that I think we, as cisgender people, take for granted, like access to medical care, housing, employment opportunities.
"All of that is to say, we made the decision to tell that story because we felt like, once again, we can use our show as a platform, not just to entertain but to educate."
Pose season 3 currently airs on FX in the US, while a UK release date has not yet been confirmed.
